Chamomile for a Smile

Camomile : a beautiful flower , not only a magnet for bees , but also a haven for a healer is well known all over the world. Roman and German Camomile have amazed East as well as West with the popularity as a comfort food and therapeutic herb. 


The camomile tea can be used as a pain relief for mental and physical pains and discomforts associated with menstruation. It has been found that this efficacy can be equalized to the effects of metformin: a pain killer (NSAID) used for this kind of symptoms. In a recent review using randomised controlled trials on this great infusion has revealed this effectiveness. This quality can be attributed to its anti-inflammatory effects (Chamazulene and α-Bisabolol); anti-spasmodic effects (Apigenin, Quercetin, and Luteolin, Metoxicomarin, Matrisin, and Phytoestrogens); anti-anxiety effects (Glycine, Flavonoid)(1).


 Further, camomile tea has 120 secondary metabolites ( fighting against bacteria and fungi) , chemicals that reduce the aging effects-antioxident ( Apigenin, flavonoids, quercetin and etc), fighting against cancer ( bisabolol oxides, coumarin) and numerous other molecules that has miraculous health benefits. Anthocyanins in the tea reduces high blood pressure. Further, apigenin is considered as a known solution for those who has sleeping difficulties.  Out of other effects of chamomile, reducing gastritis, blood sugar level, controlling high thyroxin level, controlling skin conditions, improving haemorrhoids and wound healing potential are scientifically proven(2). Yet, this sweet elixir has healing potentials yet to be discovered.
